Crowns/Onlays

At Neel Dentistry, we offer a range of restorative treatments. One of the most common is dental onlay and dental crowns.

An onlay is designed to sit on top of a damaged tooth, protecting and strengthening the entire tooth as a whole. A crown fits over the whole tooth.

When are they used?

They are often used to restore a tooth that has been damaged due to decay or injury. In addition, a crown can be used to enhance the appearance of a tooth.

What materials are they made from?

Crowns are typically made from ceramic or precious metals.

How long will the treatment take?

We tend to carry out the crown procedure over the course of two appointments, which are usually between one and two weeks apart. After preparation of the tooth, we will provide a temporary crown until the laboratory has individually fabricated the permanent crown.

How long do they last for?

Provided that care is taken to maintain your dental health they often last many years. Although crowns themselves cannot be subject to decay, the tooth underneath and the teeth around the crown can. As such, it is extremely important to follow a good oral health and hygiene plan whilst attending regular check-up appointments.

This will ensure that the join where the crown meets the tooth does not suffer from decay. Our hygienists will give you instructions on how to maintain an excellent oral hygiene plan.

Are crowns noticeable?

We will match the colour of the crown to the surrounding teeth so that it looks completely natural.
