In today’s technologically advanced world, we are becoming increasingly more visible. Social media has made it possible to rapidly send pictures of ourselves around the world to family and friends. Unfortunately, we are not all made the same, and not all of us are blessed with that camera-ready smile. Invisalign in Welwyn is here to help you achieve a smile that you can proudly display to all your contacts around the world!

Dental science at work

We are fortunate that in the twenty-first century, we have the combination of dental science and technology to give the dental profession the tools and knowledge to help us. Achieving a smile for those unfortunate enough to be born with misaligned teeth is no longer a struggle, unlike in the past.

We are all familiar with those children who have had to wear braces to straighten their teeth. Preventive dentistry was not so high on the agenda as it is today; therefore, in earlier days, so many children went through to adulthood with misaligned teeth that were never treated. However, today, dentists have an array of appliances at their disposal, and dental science still continues to embrace technology to constantly improve the equipment used to correct our misaligned teeth.

Braces and aligners

Over the past decades, braces have been radically improved from the “scaffolding” type used in the past. Traditional metal braces are still in use; however, they too have undergone a transformation and are now more modern, streamlined and comfortable.

There are also ceramic braces, which are similar to the traditional braces but blend in better with the colour of your natural teeth. Then there are lingual braces, which can be fixed behind the teeth, making them invisible to the outside.

And finally, we now have aligners that are becoming more and more popular because they fit like a gumshield and are generally made of a clear dental material; Invisalign.

Invisalign

Invisalign in Welwyn has made it possible for our patients to undergo treatment more discreetly. This revolutionises how teeth are straightened by using a series of trays shaped like gum shields that gradually align your teeth.

What is the procedure?

Before we begin treatment at Neel Dentistry, we must first assess your condition to determine whether Invisalign in Welwyn is the right treatment for your problem. During this appointment, we will take x-rays and a 3D scan, and we will also show you what your teeth will look like after treatment. We will explain the entire procedure to you, and after the discussion, if you wish to proceed, we will send all the relevant information to Invisalign.

Fitting and treatment

Invisalign will send us your trays, which will be custom-made for you. Each tray will have a specific orientation that moves your teeth in the direction necessary to straighten them. You will need to wear each tray for a minimum of two weeks before proceeding to the next tray. You must wear each tray for at least 22 hours a day, but you can remove them before eating or brushing your teeth. The duration of the treatment depends on your particular condition, but on average, it can vary from 10-12 months.

End of treatment

At the end of your treatment period, we will provide you with a retainer to be worn for a few weeks; this will allow your teeth to settle into their new position and prevent them from reverting. You will be left with straight teeth and the confidence to produce a radiant smile.
